From the moment I picked Tim and Chris up in San Angelo, I could tell these guys where going to have a successful hunt. Half of deer hunting success is executing when the moment arises. These guys where ready to execute.
While driving back to the lodge we where discussing stand options for that evening and the rare Northerly winds accompanying the warm weather. With that wind direction we had a solid game plan for Chris to hunt over water, and we're going to set a new tripod for Tim at a feeder one of the big 8 points just started hitting. With the season changing and the acorns starting to drop, early October can see some pattern shifts for these bigger bucks.
The first afternoon we got the hunters in early and right before sunset, the phone started getting messages. First it was Tim, got the big 8 point buck down, watched him drop! Sweet, my brother and I decided to go get Tim before dark and get his buck to the cooler before picking up Chris. Driving to get Tim's buck my phone goes off again, Just crushed the Big chocolate 8, shouldn't have gone far. Cool I thought, 2 target bucks down on the very first afternoon!
Now with the big target animals out of their way it was time to have some fun! Tim goes after a big blackbuck antelope the next morning, and has the hunt of his life! The text come through just after sun up, This stand is incredible! Before arrowing his trophy blackbuck he had wild hogs, axis deer, whitetail, and sika deer at his feeder. Tim took out one of the hogs after taking his blackbuck and was off to a fantastic start to his hunt. Over the next couple days Tim and Chris managed to harvest several whitetail does, some hogs, a blackbuck antelope, and 2 trophy whitetail bucks. Tim was running low on crossbow bolts and was sweating the final mornings hunt and with his last bolt, took 1 last whitetail doe. Good job guys and looking forward to seeing you again here in the Lone Star State!
