Blackbuck antelope were introduced on a few Texas Hill Country ranches back in the 1930's in a effort to save the species from extinction. These efforts turned out so well that by 1971, ranchers were able to reintroduction them back to the blackbuck's native home range on the Indian sub-continent. Today, the size of the blackbuck population in Texas far exceeds the populations in their native Country. The male blackbuck's coat is probably its most striking feature. Mature bucks are black above and white below with a sharp contrast between the colors. Some bucks will darken more than others, while many alternate between dark shades in winter and light brown shades in summer. Social status can also influence color as territorial or dominant bucks will generally lighten the least in summer. Dominant bucks may go black their first fall as adults while inferior age mates might show only a slight darkening in color. But by 2 1/2 years of age all males will show signs of darkening as the winter months approach.

Trophy blackbuck antelope hunts are popular anytime of the year and make a really nice trophy mount. Blackbuck's can be hunted the same time as axis deer, sika deer, fallow deer, and during whitetail deer season. Bow hunting these antelope can be a real challenge as they like open meadows and have excellent eyesight. They often travel in small groups however you can catch some territorial males by themselves which makes them much easier to hunt. Hunters will have them come to feeders and water sources, this make an excellent “bonus” animal while on stand for whitetail or axis deer.

Your hunt takes place here in the Texas Hill Country on private ranches with an excellent mix of rolling live oak, mesquite, and open pasture land. These large low fence ranches allows hunters to truly get a quality hunting experience. Most blackbuck hunts take place from box blinds and stands over protein and corn feeders, as well as water troughs. These antelope species water twice a day and can be seen grazing open grasslands near to oak moats and brush. Spot and stalk, as well as high fence hunts can also be accommodated. Mature trophy blackbuck males average around 18”-20” straight-line. Blackbuck's breed anytime which makes hunting them over the Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall equally effective at harvesting trophy blackbuck. There are no seasonal restrictions on blackbuck antelope in Texas, which makes them an excellent year round trophy hunt.
